I recommend this series on Netflix. Less a straightforward adaptation than a modern reimagining of one of Edgar Allan Poe's classic stories, with plentiful homage to some of his others. Created by Mike Flanagan, who brought us the spectacular The Haunting of Hill House (and its followup, The Haunting of Bly Manor), as well as a bunch of other things I'm just learning about that I might have to check out. Fair warning: there are some pretty aggressive jump scares that are not telegraphed. But where these are usually a cheap ploy used to cover up bad writing, here this is emphatically not the case. Clever story. Good performances. Cynical, but not quite as bleak as the Haunting series. Expect a scary good time.
